Our visual perception can only sometimes be trusted. What we see when we look at the world is only sometimes what is there. Eyes cannot see what lies behind facades of many different types. Many of our cultural influences, including advertisers, designers, and museums, use visual “slight of hand” to their benefit. I want to encourage everyone to look beyond what they think they see, investigate, rationalize, and explore more than the given. I play tricks with my audiences visually so that it is clear that eyes have their limitations.
